Pura Tanah Lot is a Balinese temple (pura) on the west coast of Bali. It lies on top of a rock in the sea.
At low tide it can just (or just not) be accessed by a sand dam (slack water) of about twenty feet long without getting wet feet. Access is however limited to the first five meters of the mini island. On the accessible part is a 'cave' with a magical source. Although the temple is located in the sea, fresh water comes from this source.
Tanah Lot is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Bali. At the entrance to the temple is also, difficult to come by, a tourist market. At sunset the many terraces overlooking the temple stream full with photographers who create a true jungle of photo tripods.
